KARLUKOVO ROCK-WALL MONASTERY COMPLEX INi BULGARIA. Historical check-up The Karlukovo monastery complex has a rich history, has been studied in the past but is known only to few scholars. The monastery is located near village Karlukovo, 8 km southwest of Lukovit. The year of its establishment is unknown. In XV century it was plundered and destroyed. Revived at the end of XVI-XVII century. Restored in 1834. Today only the church "Uspenie Bogorodichno" is preserved, declared a national cultural monument. On the right bank of the Iskar River two stone churches have been preserved. The frescoes of the church "St. Marina" are partially preserved. They date from the XV century.
